This CPD Approved Online Children & Young Peoples Mental Health Course is aimed at schools, teachers, social care staff, and community youth workers who work with children who may exhibit signs of mental health issues. The course will provide candidates with an awareness of the signs and symptoms of a wide range of conditions and better prepare them to listen to and support young people. 

Course Description

This course aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of mental illness and mental health problems in children and young people, as well as their potential impact. It extensively covers various types of mental illnesses prevalent in this group and offers insights on how to identify and treat them.
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, depression, self-harm, eating disorders (such as anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating), schizophrenia, autism, learning difficulties, post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder, panic disorder, sleep apnea, and social phobia are among the mental illnesses discussed. 
 
The course delves into the symptoms, causes, and appropriate actions to take when suspecting someone has a mental health condition. It also explores the important roles of mental healthcare professionals like psychologists, psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses, and clinical social workers, as well as how parents can be involved. Various treatment options, including psychotherapy, mindfulness, play therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and medication, are covered. The topics of prognosis, prevention, promoting positive mental health, and dispelling common myths are addressed. Participants will learn practical techniques to effectively communicate with children and young people about their mental health.
