Pre-Requisites
Candidates will be required to complete the full Heartsaver AED CPR & Defibrillator Course (including adult, infant and child modules) as a prerequisite to attend the Heartsaver Instructor CPR Course. All potential instructors must have an in date Heartsaver AED provider card.
Course Objectives
- By the end of this course the student will be able to:
- Teach the lay rescuer adult, child & infant CPR.
- Teach the lay rescuer how to use an AED
- Teach how to treat an adult, child & infant victim of choking to Irish Heart Foundation / American Heart Association guidelines.
- Be able to treat a Heart Attack Victim
- Be able to treat a victim of Stroke
Course Content
On successful completion of this course and subsequent student instructor monitoring, the instructor will be able to teach Irish Heart Foundation American Heart Foundation courses:
- Heartsaver AED (Defibrillator)
- Heartsaver CPR
- CPR for Family and Friends
Course Certification
Upon successful completion and monitoring, participants will be awarded the Irish Heart Foundation Heartsaver & Cardiac First Responder Instructor certificate card.
This certificate is valid for 2 years. Within this time the Heartsaver CPR Instructor must teach at least 4 courses. At the end of the 2 years, they must have their skills assessed by an Irish Heart Foundation ‘Instructor Trainer’ who observes the Recertifying Instructor delivering a course.
Post Course Certification Requirements
Once the Heartsaver Instructor CPR Course is successfully completed new Heartsaver Instructors must successfully demonstrate their teaching skills while instructing on 3 Heartsaver AED CPR & Defibrillator courses. Monitoring must be done within 90 days of completing the instructor course and monitoring must be completed by a current BLS Faculty member or Instructor Trainer.
