Under the Safety, Health & Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007, it is a legal requirement for ALL staff involved in manual handling operations to be trained in Manual Handling
Who can provide Manual Handling & People Handling Training?
Manual Handling Training in the workplace should be delivered by a QQI/FETAC Level 6 Manual Handling Instructor or QQI/FETAC Level 5 People Handling Instructor.
Can I do Manual Handling Training online?
Yes you can undertake the training online provided that there is a practical assessment with a qualified QQI/FETAC Manual Handling Instructor. The instructor will also tailor the practical assessment to your workplace.
The Patient Handling practical aspect of the course must be delivered by a QQI/FETAC People Handling Instructor and tailored to suit your healthcare setting.
How often do employees need refresher training?
“Refresher training will be at intervals not more than every three years and when there is any major change in the work involved or equipment used or when an employee is transferred to another activity requiring different loads to be handled” (Health & Safety Authority)
How long is a Manual Handling Training Course?
The average course for Manual Handling is usually 3 to 3 and a half hours and People Handling is a one day course.
The “Health and Safety Authority do not specify time duration for manual training courses. The duration of the training course should be tailored to the number and complexity of the handling procedures being taught” (Health & Safety Authority)
Do you provide in-house training? I want to get all my employees trained.
Yes we deliver on-site training nationwide. We will call to your premises at a time that is convenient to you and your employees to deliver this Manual Handling Training course. We can provide the course during office hours but also in the evenings and at the weekend. If you book two courses on the one-day we will give you a discount on the course cost.
Do you provide On-line Training?
Yes we provide online training. We have a video led course that you can do in your own time and at your own pace. When you have finished the theoretical aspect or the course you can contact us, and we will arrange a practical at a time that suits you.
