All you need to know about the PHECC First Aid Response FAR Course - FAQ Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ on the new PHECC FAR – First Aid Response Course

I have been contacted very frequently recently with many queries and questions in relation to the introduction of the new PHECC FAR First Aid Response Course

I am going to answer the questions most commonly asked in relation to the PHECC First Aid Response & First Aid Response Refresher course.

What is the First Aid Response Course?

The First Aid response is a 3 day PHECC registered First Aid Course with a minimum of 18hrs teaching time.  It is the only course recognised by the health & Safety Authority in the workplace.

The FAR course trains participants to provide first aid, which is the initial help or treatment given to someone who is injured or suddenly taken ill. It is the treatment given to a person before the arrival of Medical Aid. The FAR course also includes the full PHECC Cardiac First Response Community standard.

I have an Occupational First Aid Certificate. Is it still valid?

The PHECC First Aid Response replaces the QQI Occupational First Aid course as the national standard. If you have a current Occupational First Aid Certificate, this will remain valid until it expires. You will then need to attend the First Aid Response refresher course.

How long is the First Aid Response Refresher Course?

The FAR refresher course is a two day course of theory and practice with a minimum of 12 hours teaching time. For more details on this course please click here.

I want to provide training for my staff. How many participants can I have on the First Aid Response Course?

The maximum number of participants is 6 on each course. The ratio is 6 participants to one FAR Instructor. If you have a larger group a second instructor is required maintaining the ratio of 6:1.

My QQI Occupational First Aid certificate is expired. Can I attend the FAR refresher course?

You must have a valid in-date Occupational First Aid or FAR certificate to attend the First Aid Response Refresher Course. If your certificate has expired you must attend the full 3 day FAR Course.

To attend the FAR Refresher you must produce the following proof of training.

  •  An in-date PHECC First Aid Response Certificate

OR

  •   An original QQI/FETAC Occupational First Aid Certificate and your most recent Occupational First Aid refresher certificate.

The PHECC FAR and the FAR refresher certificates are valid for two years from date of training.

Who can teach the First Aid Response Training Course?

The Instructor must be a PHECC certified FAR Instructor. NB Training Services and their Instructors are affiliated with the PHECC Registered Institute, Safety Solutions, who issue the PHECC FAR certificates on our behalf.

Will I get a certificate?

Successful participants who attend our courses are issued with a PHECC First Aid Response certificate which is valid for two years.
